Peak Performance

October 31, 2010

Do you have what I call a peak performance time? I recently became aware of a new strategy that saved me a great deal of time. I believe each of us has peak performance times. That is, times of the day where we have more energy and thus perform better. For many people, that time is early in the morning. Maybe we perform 15% better at those times then average.

Likewise, each of us has poor performance times. Like the hour after coming back from lunch. And at these times, we may perform 15% worse than average.

Shortcuts

October 27, 2010

Imagine that every year you spend $5,000 dollars. This includes all your monthly bills (approx. $400/month) on mortgage payments, gas, phone bills etc and you spend that money every year for the past 3 years.
And then one day, a friend told you about a shortcut that would save you $100 every month. At $100 each month, that’s $1,200 a year or $3,600 over 3 years.

The point is, we would all like to save money without changing our lifestyle and this I believe can be achieved by learning shortcuts.

Actors

October 24, 2010

Are we all actors in real life? Then who are we really? It makes me think of the example of an interview. When we go for a job interview, we dress up and prepare for behavioural types of questions. We wear a business suit and polish our shoes, among other things. Why? Because we know this is ONE of the key elements to help increase our odds to get a job position.

In life, outside of an interview position, if we are able to dress for each scenario of our life then should it increase our chances for success?

Last week, the world received some great news when 33 Chilean miners were rescued after 22 hour ordeal. A good news story that we could all use in our lives.

The miners were confined for more then two months and their determination to survive inspired not only their country but the entire world.

Trapped deep underground in a lightless space, experts were worried that the miner’s eyes would be dilated and thus bringing risk to damaging the retina. Recognizing the need for sunglasses, Oakley donated 35 pairs of Radar lenses to these miners.

Competition

October 14, 2010

In the Athens 2004 Olympics, the Chinese athlete Liu Xiang won the first gold medal in the 110 meters men’s hurdles competition for China. He entered Chinese history. When he was asked, if the four-time world champion Allen Johnson had crashed out in the qualifying heat, would his own performance be affected? He said, “Not at all, I just follow my own plan, and perform for the best.” In his mind, he did not care who was running against him, he just does his best.

The simple things….

October 11, 2010

There are lots of things that all of us do, and do as well as we have to, without thinking.

Like getting money out of an ATM.

I just took money out this morning. And thought nothing of it. Until now.

The fact is that I didn’t just take out money. Sure, the entire process of what I did was called “taking cash out of the ATM”. But I did a lot of things that made up that process.
